Tips for a newb war/mes?
i've only been playing gw for a couple of days. and, as usual, my first character started out as a warrior(they seem to be the easiest the learn games with). i chose mesmer as my secondary by accident(clicked yes instead of no while on the phone). i'm having an extremely hard time with this combo(i've got a necro/ele that i do fine with). anybody care to give a poor gw noob some advice on playing a war/mes? i'm post and halfway from lvl 7 to 8. TIA. gotta hit the sack now. i'll check for responses in the morning. feel free to chant noob and other childish stuff if you'd like. it wont bother me.

I play W/Me, but I've never done it from the start (started with W/R cause I wanted a pet, which I can not recomend btw ) and it's been quite a while since my wa was that level but I'll try to give you some pointers.
- Try to go with mainly warrior skills at first. Mesmer skills eat away at your energy. Bring a heal signet and Watch yourself (I believe you should have those two by now) and put some points in tactics to make them effective. The -armour from heal sig can be compansated with Watch yourself. - If I remember correctly your swordskills are probably the best at this point (hammer sucks any time in PvE imo). I myself prefer Axe, but it takes some time to get the right skills for that. So go with a sword, they're shiny. - Get the feel of being a warrior and the game by taking only Alesia and try to clear out Old Ascalon, that's how I got the feel of the game and being a Warrior, I think I didn't even take Alesia (I did have my pet and Troll Ungent though). - I'll be willing to help you out a bit, just contact me ingame: Gonzo Salvato and if I'm free I'll come help you get a feel for the game. |

I usually bring Inspired Hex on my W/Me. Hex removal is nice.

I played as W/Me on my second account from the start and changed it immediately after ascension....
At the beginning it is nice using conjure (because of the low health of enemies it is effective) from distance. But, if you advance through the game, the mesmer abilities start to become a bit useless, except for the following things I can remember. Use self heal with ether feast Use illusion of weakness for nice healing when things go tough (hope it is not shattered when you are at full health) Use a while in stance weapon for the mesmer stances that last pretty long A stated above: use hex removal for your benefit and some energy gain Accordingly: use enchant removal for energy gain (especially useful when fighting monk boss with Mark of Protection) Use black out for annoying monk bosses Empathie on warriors/rangers can help sometimes (10 energy is doable, you need points in dom though) Hex breaker can give you some room/space to charge in Leech signet for interrupt, recharge is horrible though Or better: remake your toon. Its only lvl 8... |

Distortion seems nice for a warrior. Who wouldn't want 75% of all attacks to miss, even if it's only for 5 seconds and takes all your energy away?! I believe one of the henchies swears by it

Distortion is allright, if it's your only energy skill in your bar and you can get it with a quest in Old Ascalon. 75% miss change is ok, but loosing 4 energy with each miss isn't as a warrior. (Ok, I myself use it when I'm not using Phys res or Ele res or in other words, when I don't know which one I'll encounter).
A hex removal is also nice, but other then that I wouldn't go with mesmer skills, as they tend to suck at attribute level 0 and you don't want to put anything in them (especially when your low level and you need your points for weapon, str and tact). Leech signet is indeed allright, but only if you can't get a disrupt that goes by addrenaline, they recharge much faster. |

I like to start a fight from a distance. So when you can finally get Phantom Pain, I'd suggest you pack it. Not only will it degen your foe's health for a few seconds, but it inflicts a Deep Wound that lowers that foe's Max HP temporarily.
Also Gladiator's Armour will help (High-End Glad armour will boost your Energy by about 9 or 10 points) |

I think W/Me is a fine choice. My first warrior was a W/Me. I beat all the missions till Ring of Fire. I have to tell you W/Me is very effective. First of all, you have access to various elemental resistances. Mantra of Flame, Lightning, Earth and Frost are very useful in various areas. My favorite is Physical Resistance and Mantra of Frost. I use them in Shiverpeaks region very often. Additionally I agree with Gonzo, sword skills are very usefuly. I use Sever Artey and then Epidemic. It usually bleeds all those mobs I'm tanking. More so I use Riposte and Deadly Riposte to do additional damage. When I went to kill my dopplengar, it was even easier than i thought. I brought along physical resistance and let the doppleganger use it. Lol. I bascially bashed his head in with my fds. Hehee.
If you have questions or need help. pm me in game: My ign is Alandra of Sol |

We're talking PvE? War/Mes is the closest you'll ever get to a gimped combination of classes in GW: it's IMO the hardest & slowest build there is in PvE.
Oh you can finish the game as a W/Me, don't worry about that, but that you're finding it hard going is very much par for the course. If you want a much easier time, abandon it and make a W/Mo - that combination is instead the easiest and fastest of all in PvE. You'll quickly catch up with where you are with the W/Me, so even if you've been playing with the W/Me for quite some time you'll still be saving time. W/Me are excellent in PvP, though. Actually despite what people have said in here, some situations are almost impossible to do solo without a W/Me build. Trying soloing a bunch of Ice imps without a W/Me, then do it with one. You'll quickly see what it means to be a true tank. Healing Sig provides more than enough healing, and the awesome defensive skills of the Mesmer, coupled with the Warriors beastly armor can make you near invincable, as long are you're prepared.

thanx for all the tips. i dont think im going to delete her or abandon her. rather i'm going to put her on the backburner for when i get more adept at the game and have time to mess around with her. i think for now i'll concentrate on my necro/ele. she seems to be great.
btw...nobody lowered themselves to the 'stoopid noob' replies to my thread. thanx for that. i read a bunch of threads before posting and was thinking for sure i'd get a few of those. kudos to you all and see you in game twiztidcabbie |

This was already mentions, but I'll second the notion....
Physical Resistance is the skill any Warrior/Mesmer should never leave home without. Elemental Resistance and Mantra of <insert element> here are also nice. Let's face it....as a Warrior/Mesmer your energy is too low to use most of the good Mesmer spells in the Domination and Illusion categories, but the stuff in Inspiration is your friend as it is largely defensive. |
